My friends and I just returned from vacation in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. We stayed at Paradise Village Beach Resort and Spa. Paradise Village is in possession of three large tigers (2 females and 1 male). In my opinion the resort does an inadequate job of taking care of these tigers. I am unsure of the subspecies of the tigers but they are fairly large and orange/black in color.
Two of the tigers (1 male and 1 female) are held in a 24x16x12 feet enclosure. The enclosure is surrounded by steel bars and consists of nothing but concrete for a floor. The only relieve the tigers get from midday heat and humidity is the two foot radius "waterfall" pool.
The other female tiger is in an enclosure that is half the size of the other enclosure. Her enclosure also only has a small pool of water and concrete floor. The resort named this tiger Chloe. She seemed thin and slightly unhealthy.
Our balcony from our room overlooked the tiger's cages. Never once did I see any kind of toy or activity device in the tiger's cages (we were there for 7 days). The tiger enclosures are right next to the main entrance road to the resort. The only thing that separates guests from the tigers is a chainlink fence that is around 3 feet from the bars of the tiger's cages. Staff does not seem to monitor guest and tiger interactions, making it easy for guests to taunt or irritate the tigers (which I observed). The tigers do nothing but sleep, lay around, or pace their cages. They seem very unstimulated and sad. The resort seems to only fulfill the very basic needs of these tigers (food and water).
After my observations, I felt compelled to contact someone who may be able to help these animals. I am already worried about the way these tigers are treated. What worries me more is the fact that resort seems to be "going down hill" and becoming "hard up" for money. I think that the tiger's conditions will only worsen in the future.
FitzpatrickS, 4 months ago | FlagI reported this to big cat rescue, but they said they were full. They told me to come to this website in order to promote awareness.
I have a few photos, but no video.
TheirVoice, 5 months ago | FlagWho have you reported this too so far? Did you, by chance, get any photos or videos that can be used as evidence?
